Privacy Policy

1. Data Controller

DotVie.ws ("we", "our") is the data controller for personal data collected through the dotvie.ws platform. For any privacy inquiries, contact us at [email protected].

2. Data We Collect

We collect data necessary to operate the platform: account information (name, username, email, profile photo) managed through Clerk; content you create (reviews, interview transcripts, ratings, summaries, pros and cons); photos you optionally upload to your reviews; short audio or public video links you optionally provide to generate a draft story while writing (section 14); basic technical metadata (creation date, publication status); approximate location (city and country or region, via GPS with your permission, network signals, IP geolocation, or manual entry); interest and preference selections from onboarding when you provide them; and profile insights derived from your published dotviews when you enable personalization. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to create and manage your account, enable you to publish and display reviews on your public profile, process conversational interviews with artificial intelligence models, generate and publish content derived from your reviews, store photos associated with reviews, suggest an editable draft from short audio or a video link when you choose that creation option, maintain the security and operation of the service, tailor discovery and your experience using approximate location, and —only if you consent— use interests and profile insights to adapt future interviews and recommendations. Current uses are always published on this page.

4. Legal Basis (GDPR)

We process your data based on contract performance (providing the service you request), your consent (when you voluntarily upload content or photos), and our legitimate interest (security, abuse prevention, and service improvement). You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account or contacting us.

5. Processors and Third Parties

We share data with providers that help us operate the service: Clerk (authentication and account management), AI model providers (interview processing, content generation, photo visual description, and —when you use audio or a video link in creation— transcription and assisted drafting —section 14—), Cloudflare R2 (photo storage and temporary creation audio), RapidAPI and its associated video metadata provider (when you paste a public video link —section 14—), Railway (hosting infrastructure and database), and Redis (processing queues). These providers act as data processors under data protection agreements. We prioritize EU regions when available.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data while you maintain an active account. If you delete your account, we remove your profile and associated reviews from our database. Photos stored in R2 are deleted when you remove them while writing, when you delete the associated draft or dotview (via asynchronous maintenance tasks, usually within one day), or when you delete your account. Copies in backups or technical logs may be retained for a limited period before being automatically purged. Publicly published content becomes inaccessible after account deletion.

7. Your Rights

If you reside in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object, and request data portability. You may also lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. To exercise your rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

8. International Transfers

Some of our providers may process data outside the EEA. When this occurs, we apply appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, to ensure an equivalent level of protection.

9. Security

We implement technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls, and secure credential storage. No system is completely infallible; we recommend using strong passwords and not sharing your login credentials.

10. Children

DotVie.ws is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, contact [email protected] so we can delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy occasionally. We will post the updated version on this page with the revision date. Significant changes will be communicated by email or through a notice on the platform when necessary.

12. Contact

For privacy or data protection questions, email [email protected].

13. Photos in your dotviews

You may optionally add photos while drafting a dotview. We store the file in Cloudflare R2 (prioritizing the EU when available) and metadata in our database: file type, upload date, and a text description for accessibility.

To help you articulate your experience, we may send each photo to a vision AI provider (for example, OpenAI or another configured in our environment) that generates a brief description of what is visible. That description is used only for assistant suggestions while you write and as alternative text on your published dotview. It does not feed your emergent profile or cross-dotview inferences without the separate personalization consent (Tier B) you enable.

When you publish, photos may appear on your public dotview. Only upload images you have the right to share and may display publicly. Do not upload photos of identifiable third parties, minors, or sensitive data without their permission.

Photos may contain embedded metadata (EXIF), such as the location where they were taken. We do not modify the file on our servers; if you do not want to reveal location or other metadata, remove it on your device before uploading.

14. Audio and video in creation

You may optionally start a dotview draft from a short audio file (for example, a voice memo) or by pasting the URL of a brief public video (for example, a YouTube Short). We only accept clips up to three minutes long. The result is editable text in the editor; nothing is published until you decide.

To generate that draft, we process the audio or link using artificial intelligence providers and video metadata services: speech transcription (for example, OpenAI Whisper), retrieval of subtitles or video metadata through a provider accessed via RapidAPI (Social Media Video Downloader / SMVD), and a language model that converts the transcript into a first-person narrative. These providers act as data processors. This processing is necessary for the feature you request (contract performance) and does not replace personalization consent: it does not on its own feed your emergent profile or cross-dotview inferences without the separate personalization consent you enable.

If you upload audio, we store it temporarily in Cloudflare R2 while it is processed and delete it after generating the draft, except for technical failures covered by maintenance tasks. We do not retain full responses from video metadata providers. We may store internal metadata on your draft (for example, text origin and the URL you pasted) for operations and debugging; we do not display that URL as public attribution on the published dotview in the current version. If you delete the draft or your account, this data is removed with the same flow as your other reviews.

Only upload audio or use links to content you have the right to use to tell your experience and reflect in your own perspective. Do not use this feature for podcasts, long videos, or third-party content without permission. Generated text may be inaccurate: review and edit it before publishing.

When you paste a video link, we may download the cover image offered by the platform and store it in our storage (Cloudflare R2) as an optional dotview photo, with the same treatment as photos you upload yourself (section 13). You can remove it in the editor before publishing.
